Sarah Hamman is a Connellsville, Pennsylvania native who relocated to Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 2019. Hamman has been actively involved in the performing arts since childhood where she performed in multiple children’s choirs, community theaters, took private vocal lessons, and studied musical theater at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. As a young performer, Hamman filled her theatrical resume with over 20 theater productions before graduating high school in 2014.
To continue her music education, Hamman received a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Science in Music (Vocal Emphasis) from Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia. While receiving her bachelor degrees, Hamman led 2 musical productions, an operetta and was the student leader of the pop a capella group « The West Virginians ». Hamman was very active in the community during this time as she served as Praise Team Leader at Philippi Baptist Church and was the President of Phi Kappa Delta, a community service based sorority.
After graduating in December 2018, Hamman moved to Hattiesburg and received a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from The University of Southern Mississippi under the direction of Dr. Gregory Fuller. This experience allowed Hamman to work with ensembles such as The Southern Chorale, Concert Choir, Gulf Coast Community Choir, Belletones, and Hattiesburg Oratorio Chorus. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after Hamman graduated she relocated to North Little Rock, Arkansas to teach K-5 Elementary Music.
Following USM‘s announcement of the hiring of Dr. Meredith Melvin Johnson as a full-time voice professor, Hamman returned to Hattiesburg to pursue a Master of Music in Vocal Performance that has completely changed her life. In almost 2 short years, Hamman has performed across seas, in multiple states and has led multiple productions with Southern Opera & Musical Theater Company. She also realized the support and love for the arts in the Hattiesburg area by performing with groups such as FestivalSouth, Hub City Players and Hattiesburg Community Theater. Hamman will continue her education across seas with an additional summer in Germany with the International Performing Arts Institute where she will be actively auditioning in Hamburg and also serving as staff for the institute.
Since opening her vocal studio in Fall 2022, Hamman has filled her studio and had to expand. She has been fortunate to consider her students the true future of performing arts and hopes to continue their growth and love for performing arts. Hamman’s experience in musical theater and classical settings allow her to share her expertise on modern vocal techniques and practices. Hamman currently resides in Downtown Hattiesburg with her dogs Mazie, Piper & Rudy.
